Mondragó Nature Reserve
Mallorca
Nature attractions
Mondragó is on the south east coast of Mallorca in an area largely made up of marine deposits, similar to reefs and swamps. Almost 90% of the reserve is privately owned and it contains and protects some of the finest unspoilt coves in this part of the island.
The diverse flora is of great interest as there are several distinct areas which are apparent on the different walks. The reptile population is also varied and includes the Mediterranean tortoise, reintroduced here after becoming extinct, and a number of snake species. Naturally, a great many bird types can be seen here, in particular migrating types.
The Nature Reserve Information Centre is next to the ses Fonts de n'Alis car park and opening hours are Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. At the Information Centre there are three exhibitions about the Geology of Mondragó, Coastal Defensive Fortifications, and Mediterranean Rural Buildings.
Tours can be arranged for groups of twenty people with at least 12 days advance notice. There are two different tours: Mondragó alive and Mondragó for everyone. There are three different sign-posted paths which take between 25 and 40 minutes to complete.
